Board of Directors

“We are determined to keep this ministry debt free, so that we can continue helping those in need.”

Our Board of Directors is made up of Business Professionals who have the passion and experience that aligns with our mission.  Working together, the Board provides the vision, mission, goals and direction for the organization.

Nathaniel Grant

President, Founder

Nathaniel Grant is the President of Graphics and Marketing (GAM) in Dulles, VA.  Nathaniel took control of GAM when his dad, Charlie Grant, had been elected to the Board of Supervisors in 1991.  Since then, he has excelled at setting the strategic and operational direction of the company, taking it from his Dad’s faith-based business (Grace Abounding Ministries) to the successful company it is today.

Nathaniel is also the ninth child born to Charles and Ginny Grant.  Having grown up in a family whose patriarch is the quintessential  “cheerful giver,” Nat’s deepest desire is to help carry on the legacy started by his father.

James Askegren

Vice President, Secretary

James Askegren has lived and worked in Loudoun County for more than fifty-one years.   After thirty-one years working for Terradata Corporation as the Eastern Region Director of Customer Services, Jim retired and turned his attention to assisting non-profit and not-for-profit organizations in the county.  He is a past Board Member of the Good Shepherd Alliance, and currently holds a seat on the Board of Virginia Regional Transit.

A friend of the Grant family for over twenty-five years, Jim has unwaveringly supported their charitable efforts and events was happy to join the Board of Charles Grant Charities as the Vice President and Secretary.

Bette Otts

Treasurer

Ms. Otts founded the Peoples Tax and Business Services LLC as a family, home-based business.  In 2017, it became a licensed Virginia CPA firm, but still retained its emphasis on family.  Bette prioritizes being value-added – whether to her family, her clients, or her community.  With a volunteer history that includes the Red Cross, IRS VITA program and Habit for Humanity,  Bette is currently serving as the Treasurer/CFO for the Charles Grant Charities.

Mary Gayle Holden

Legal Counsel

A native of Virginia, Mary Gayle graduated from Roanoke College and the University of Virginia Law School.  As a new lawyer, she became active in local non-profits and has remained so ever since.  One of Mary Gayle’s first assignments as a new lawyer was to incorporate the Fairfax Choral Society, and she served as its board member and general counsel for over 20 years.  Over the years she has served as President for Committee for Dulles, Chairman of the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce, and President of the Purcellville Business Association.  She has been a director of the Loudoun Arts Council, a director of the Loudoun Chapter of the American Cancer Society, and a Commissioner on the Loudoun Economic Development Commission.  She has been a member of the Affirmative Action Committee for Loudoun County and a member of the Advisory Board of the George Washington University Loudoun Campus.  Currently, she is a director and general counsel for the Charles Grant Charities and is the Junior Warden at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Middleburg.  She has been a volunteer for the Loudoun Medical Reserve Corp during the COVID-19 crisis. Mary Gayle has practiced law in both DC and Virginia and is currently a principal in the law firm of Turner Holden & Turner.
